Week 11 - FCC123

This week, we have learned about Database and using Microsoft Access to manage database. Database is a collection of interrelated data stored together with controlled redundancy to serve one or more applications in an optimal way. The data are stored in such a way that they are independent of the programs used by the people for accessing the data.

I also have learned about database Components which are data item, relationship, constraints and schema, database management systems and examples of database management system such as Microsoft Access, Oracle, IBM DB2, SQL Serve or MySQL.

I have known Database System, advantages of Database systems which are controlled redundancy, data consistency, Sharing of data, improved data integrity, improved security or data access is efficient. I also have learned some types of database models which are Hierarchical database, Network database, relational database and object-relational database. I also have learned  about the Structured Query Language (SQL).

Week 10 - FCC123

In these sessions, I have learned about the types and characteristics of web applications and web applications and web information systems. We did the case study on learning management system and campus management. I also have learned about web development tools and Google Apps technologies and managing web resources.

I have known about web applications is an application that is accessed over a network such as the Internet or an Internet. I also have learned about the Web 2.0 applications which are dynamic interactive web sites, typically with client or server communication patterns, famous for E-Commerce applications. A few Web 2.0 are DSS, widgets, SaaS. I also have learned Web Information Systems (WIS) and different types of WIS.

In Week 12, we were introduced about Google Apps: Google calendar, Google Doc, Gmail. I also have learned website designing and Google Sites, managing web resources, the diversity of web-based resources and Static web-site and web resources, manging resources and metadata. I also have known the National Archives (UK).

Week 9 - FCC123

In these sessions, I have been introduced the major networking and computing technologies and about the Internet in past, present and future. I also have learned about the Internet and www growth, We-based computing which include server side computing (CGI) + Client side computing (Applets) + Web current computing.

I also  have known about the computing using CGI, a web-based system, searching for compute servers, how Internet infrastructure works.

I have learned Web 2.0 which is the popular term for advances Internet Technology and applications Including blogs, wikis, Really simple syndication (RSS) and social bookmarking. I have learned elements of Web 2.0, categories of web 2.0 sites which are social networking, aggregators and Mashup. I have known web 2.0 information technology applications and compared web 1.0 and web 2.0 to identify the differences between them.

I also have learned about Web 3.0 which is about semantic web (or the meaning of data), personalization, intelligent search and behavioral advertising among other things.

Week 7 - FCC123

This week, I discussed the answers for the paper test which has been done before. It helped us to identify our mistake and get experience for the final exam which is around the corner. 

Besides, we also did an in-class activity which is about the IS development methodologies. In this activity, we had to find some information about the IS development methodologies.

Week 6 - FCC123

In these sessions, I have learned about the functions of Information Systems (IS) and types of Information Systems which are Transaction Processing System (TPS), Decision Support System (DSS), Expert Support System (ESS), Management Information System (MIS), Executive Support System (ESS) and others (Office Support System, Knowledge Work System).

 

I have learned clearly about the Executive Support System (ESS) with definition, functions of ESS, characteristics of ESS. I also have learned about Decision Support System (DSS) with its definition and functions as well as characteristics of DSS and example of DSS. I have learned about the Transaction Processing System (TPS), its roles, functions and characteristics.

I also have learned about the Management Information System (MIS) with its definition, functions, characteristics and examples. I also have discovered the Expert System (ES) and others infomation systems such as office automation system, end user computing system, business infomation system, strategy infomation system, enterprise resource planning system,...I have learned about the challenges and opportunities of Information System.

Week 5 - FCC123

This week, We did the in-class activities about information system. Our group was given the question about the definition of Information System, Roles of Information Technology, Components of Is which are Hardware, Software, Database, Telecommunication, People and Procedures. We also did the question about challenges of IS, computer-based information system.

 We need to submit that one to our lecturer, so I have attach that in this blog.

Week 4 - FCC123

This week, I have learned about Information System (IS) which is a combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and trained personel organized to facilitate planning, control, coordination and decision making in an organisation. Information System triangle are Information Technology, Business and People.

I also have learned about IS and IT, characteristics of 5 component which are Hardware, software, data procedures and people. I also have known Manual and computerized information systems, information system framework. I have discovered some examples of IS in accounting, health care, marketing, finance,...

I have understood the concept of a system and how it relates to information systems. The lecture illustrates how the business applications of infomation systems can support a firm's business processes, managerial decision making and strategies for competitive advantages.
